MUSEUMS FOR
THE FUTURE
Connections ● Interpretation ● Impact
In recent years, the Philippines has seen an unprecedented “museum boom”: from community museums, ethnographic, art, natural history, and university museums, among others. In addition, the cultural or creative hub has entered the conversation. With these sites come exciting spaces wherein ideas can be developed, stories can be told and verified, and resources can be accessed and engaged with varied audiences. However, this boom begs the question of content, significance, and impact.
Often, the ideation process of programs is in the sidelines, all in favor of exhibition display and presentation without depth in the narrative. The summit asserts the importance of research, narration, and interpretation in creating exhibitions and conception of educational programs. These processes have the capacity to illustrate the immediate concerns of communities, respond to current conditions and even gaps, and shedding light on the role of the museum in contemporary society today.
Lectures, discussions, and site visits will assist participants in plotting areas of strengths and weaknesses, and provide recommendations through case examples and best practices to empower their respective museums in the work that they do.
